The Regional Plastic Waste Profiling Report presents a comprehensive overview of the plastic waste landscape across Cabo Verde, Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Rodrigues, São Tomé and Príncipe, Seychelles and Zanzibar. Developed under the IslandPlas initiative, the report examines plastic waste generation, collection and recovery systems, leakage hotspots, policy and regulatory frameworks, stakeholder ecosystems and opportunities to strengthen circular economy approaches.

Drawing on national assessments and stakeholder consultations, the report identifies common regional challenges while highlighting country-specific opportunities for improving plastic waste management and reducing marine plastic pollution. It provides the evidence base for the design and implementation of IslandPlas interventions, including PlastiNetwork systems, community engagement, policy development, enterprise support and circular innovation.

The report serves as a key knowledge resource for governments, development partners, researchers, civil society organizations, private sector actors and communities working to accelerate the transition towards resilient, inclusive and circular plastic management systems across African island states.
